Working together to reduce casualties

Safety Camera Partnership

The Safety Camera Partnership was formed in April 2001 under a scheme introduced by the Department of Transport for the purposes of reducing the incidence and severity of road traffic collisions through the deployment of safety cameras. It comprises of Partners from Norfolk Constabulary, Highways Agency, Norfolk Primary Care Trust, Her Majesty's Court Services, Crown Prosecution Services, and the University of East Anglia.

This reduction can be achieved through changing driver attitude by education, information, enforcement and engineering. The Safety Camera Partnership deploys fixed and mobile safety cameras in area’s which have shown a history of casualty problems and evidence of excessive speed or red light non compliance.

It uses enforcement by means of issuing 'Notice of Intended Prosecutions' to vehicles which exceed the relevant speed limits. Depending on the speed the vehicle is captured travelling the offender could be offered a Speed Awareness Driving Course as well as being given the option of accepting a Conditional Offer. The alternative is for the offender to opt for a court hearing instead.
